CROWRÃ (The Buriti Flower)

Das Volk der Krahô lebt im brasilianischen Regenwald in
einer eigenen Zeit. Auf Mobiltelefonen verfolgen sie die Rede
einer indigenen Aktivistin in der Hauptstadt, zugleich wird
ein lange schon zurückliegendes Massaker, das die „cupe“
(die Weißen) einst an ihren Vorfahren verübt hatten,
als identitätsstiftendes Ereignis erinnert.

I Krahô, nella foresta pluviale brasiliana, vivono in
un tempo tutto loro. Seguono con il cellulare il discorso di
un attivista indigeno nella capitale, mentre allo stesso tempo
un massacro dei loro antenati da parte dei "cupe" (i bianchi)
viene ricordato come un evento di formazione dell'identità.

The Krahô people in the Brazilian rainforest live in
a time of their own. They follow the speech of an indigenous
activist in the capital on mobile phones, while at the same
time a long-ago massacre of their ancestors by the "cupe"
(the whites) is remembered as an identity-forming event.

João Salaviza (1984) ha studiato cinema alla Scuola di Teatro e Cinema di Lisbona e all'Universidad del Cine di Buenos Aires. Il suo primo cortometraggio Arena è stato premiato con la Palma d'Oro a Cannes (2009), seguito dall'Orso d'Oro per i cortometraggi alla Berlinale per Rafa (2012). Ha inoltre pubblicato i cortometraggi High Cities of Bone (2017) e Russa (2018) nella competizione ufficiale della Berlinale. Il suo primo lungometraggio, Mountain, è stato presentato in anteprima mondiale alla Mostra del Cinema di Venezia (Settimana della Critica) nel 2015. Da allora, ha vissuto tra il Portogallo e il Brasile, con la popolazione indigena Krahô. Nel 2018, The Dead and the Others (co-diretto con Renée Nader Messora) è stato presentato in anteprima al Festival di Cannes, ricevendo il Premio Speciale della Giuria - Un Certain Regard. João Salaviza (1984) studierte Film an der Theater- und Filmschule in Lissabon und an der Universidad del Cine in Buenos Aires. Sein erster Kurzfilm Arena wurde in Cannes mit der Goldenen Palme ausgezeichnet (2009), gefolgt vom Goldenen Bären für Kurzfilme auf der Berlinale für Rafa (2012). Er veröffentlichte auch die Kurzfilme High Cities of Bone (2017) und Russa (2018) im offiziellen Wettbewerb der Berlinale. Sein erster Spielfilm, Mountain, hatte seine Weltpremiere bei den Filmfestspielen von Venedig (Kritikerwoche) im Jahr 2015. Seitdem lebt er zwischen Portugal und Brasilien bei der indigenen Bevölkerung der Krahô. 2018 wurde The Dead and the Others (Co-Regie mit Renée Nader Messora) bei den Filmfestspielen in Cannes uraufgeführt und erhielt den Sonderpreis der Jury - Un Certain Regard. Der Film wurde in mehreren Ländern in die Kinos gebracht, vor allem in Frankreich, wo er von 45.000 Zuschauern gesehen wurde. Im Jahr 2023 kehrt er zu den Filmfestspielen von Cannes - Un Certain Regard zurück, um die Premiere von The Buriti Flower zu zeigen, bei der er gemeinsam mit Renée Nader Messora Regie führte.

João Salaviza (1984) studied Cinema at the Lisbon Theater and Film School and at the Universidad del Cine in Buenos Aires. His first short film Arena was awarded the Palme d'Or at Cannes (2009), followed by the Golden Bear for Short Films at the Berlinale for Rafa (2012). He also released the short films High Cities of Bone (2017) and Russa (2018) in the Official Competition of the Berlinale. His first feature film, Mountain, had its world premiere at the Venice Film Festival (Critics Week) in 2015. Since then, he has lived between Portugal and Brazil, with the Krahô indigenous people. In 2018, The Dead and the Others (co-directed with Renée Nader Messora) premiered at the Cannes Film Festival, receiving the Special Jury Prize – Un Certain Regard. The film was released commercially in several countries, notably France where it was seen by 45,000 spectators. In 2023, he returns to the Cannes Film Festival - Un Certain Regard to premiere The Buriti Flower co-directed with Renée Nader Messora.

Renée Nader Messora (1979) si è laureata in Cinematografia presso l'Universidad del Cine, a Buenos Aires. Per 15 anni ha lavorato come assistente alla regia in diversi progetti in Brasile, Argentina e Portogallo, tra cui Mountain, il primo lungometraggio di João Salaviza. Ha fotografato il cortometraggio Pohí, grazie al quale ha conosciuto il popolo Krahô. Da allora lavora con la comunità, contribuendo all'organizzazione di un collettivo di giovani registi che utilizzano il cinema come strumento per rafforzare l'identità culturale e l'autodeterminazione del popolo Krahô. Nel 2017 ha fotografato il cortometraggio Russa, diretto da Ricardo Alves Junior e João Salaviza, presentato in anteprima al Concorso Ufficiale della Berlinale 2018. Sempre nel 2018, il suo primo lungometraggio, The Dead and the Others (co-diretto con João Salaviza) è stato presentato in anteprima al Festival di Cannes, ricevendo il Premio Speciale della Giuria - Un Certain Regard. Il film è stato distribuito commercialmente in diversi paesi, in particolare in Francia dove è stato visto da 45.000 spettatori. The Buriti Flower è il suo secondo lungometraggio, co-diretto con João Salaviza e girato nell'arco di quindici mesi nella terra indigena di Krahô.

Renée Nader Messora (1979) machte ihren Abschluss in Kinematografie an der Universidad del Cine in Buenos Aires. 15 Jahre lang arbeitete sie als Regieassistentin an verschiedenen Projekten in Brasilien, Argentinien und Portugal, darunter Mountain, der erste Spielfilm von João Salaviza. Sie fotografierte den Kurzfilm Pohí, durch den sie das Volk der Krahô kennenlernte. Seitdem arbeitet sie mit der Gemeinschaft zusammen und trägt zur Organisation eines Kollektivs junger Filmemacher/innen bei, die das Kino als Mittel zur Stärkung der kulturellen Identität und der Selbstbestimmung des Volkes der Krahô nutzen. 2017 fotografierte sie den Kurzfilm Russa, bei dem Ricardo Alves Junior und João Salaviza Regie führten und der im offiziellen Wettbewerb der Berlinale 2018 Premiere feierte. Ebenfalls 2018 wurde ihr erster Spielfilm The Dead and the Others (gemeinsam mit João Salaviza) bei den Filmfestspielen in Cannes uraufgeführt und erhielt den Spezialpreis der Jury - Un Certain Regard. Renée Nader Messora (1979) graduated in Cinematography from the Universidad del Cine, in Buenos Aires. For 15 years, she worked as an assistant director on several projects in Brazil, Argentina and Portugal, including Mountain, João Salaviza's first feature film. She photographed the short film Pohí, through which she got to know the Krahô people. Since then, she´s been working with the community, contributing to the organization of a collective of young filmmakers who use cinema as a tool to strengthen the cultural identity and self-determination of the Krahô people. In 2017, she photographed the short film Russa, directed by Ricardo Alves Junior and João Salaviza, which premiered at the 2018 Berlinale Official Competition. Also in 2018, her first feature film, The Dead and the Others (co-directed with João Salaviza) premiered at the Cannes Film Festival, receiving the Special Jury Prize – Un Certain Regard. The film was released commercially in several countries, notably France where it was seen by 45,000 spectators. The Buriti Flower is her second feature film, co-directed with João Salaviza and shot over a period of fifteen months in the Krahô Indigenous Land.
